Nebraska License Information

Construction Work Regulated:

Electrical work, along with, construction contracts, that exceed $2500 and are done by out-of-state contractors, are regulated in the state of Nebraska.

Prequalification if required to bid on state highway projects greater than $2500.

License Requirements

• Electrical work and construction contracts exceeding $2,500 by out of state contractors is regulated in the state of Nebraska.
• Prequalification is required to bid on state highway projects greater than $2,500.

Non-Resident Contractors:

• An initial registration fee of $25 is required by the Department of Revenue prior to any award of a non resident contract. A $25 fee for each contract awarded is also required.
• Bonds on construction work by out of state contractors are required according to the following schedule:
  
  Contract Value-Bond Requirement
  • Under $2,500 None
  • $2,500 to $10,000 $1,000 Bond
  • $10,000 to $100,000 10% of contract
  • Over $100,000 5% of contract

Other:

• Contractors not covered by the mechanic's lien laws shall provide a payment bond for a minimum of the contract value. State contracts valued at less than $15,000 and local government contracts valued at $5,000 or less are exempted from these bonding requirements.
• Work for the Nebraska Department of Roads or the University of Nebraska requires a bond equal to 100 percent of the value of the contract.

Reciprocal Agreements

Nebraska has a reciprocity agreement with South Dakota for electrical contractors.

Every contractor is required to pass the OSHA exam.
